Operation Days of Penitence
- Operation Days of Penitence
The name applied to the
Israel Defense Forces counteroffensive in the northern
Gaza Strip from 30 September to 15 October 2004 to destroy launching sites of
Qassam missiles targeting
Sderot and deter further attacks. The immediate precipitator of the operation was the death of two young Israeli children in Sderot by a Qassam missile on 29 September 2004. The operation focused on the northern Gaza towns of Beit Hanoun and Beit Lahia and the Jabaliya refugee camp, which were being used as launching sites for the Qassam missiles. It disrupted but did not disable the launching of Qassam missiles on Israeli targets from Gaza.
